EMBRACING THE SMALL

Why getting boosted on Medium doesn’t mean a lot to me

Let me get this out of the way right away. Of course it’s wonderful to be boosted on Medium. What writer wouldn’t want their work reaching thousands of readers? And if they’re Medium members, well that could be a helluva payday, right?

Yes, I would like that for my work too. But it honestly doesn’t mean that much to me.

I’ve been a member of Medium since July 2021. I have 908 followers. And I feel like I know them. Even more importantly, I feel like they know me and they like me. From the comments they leave, I can tell they’re rooting for me.

Embracing the small

The things and experiences I write about are all regular, day-to-day stuff. Small stuff, if you will.

I’m a mom and wife. My older son has autism. He’s also been in trouble with the law. It’s been a tough time for him as well as for me and my husband. Rob and I live in Florida. My son lives in Virginia. Since he was placed under house arrest in April 2023, I’ve been living in Virginia with him. 15 months is a long time to not live with your spouse (unless you’re sick of your spouse and then, well, can you trade places with me for a bit so I can go home to mine?)
